Jo Swinson, Lib Dem shadow foreign affairs minister – and one of LDV readers’ top choices for promotion to the party’s shadow cabinet – is the Lib Dem representative on tonight’s Question Time (BBC1 and online, 10.35 pm GMT).
Jo will appear alongside former Justice Secretary (and former flatmate of Tony Blair) Lord Falconer, Conservative shadow secretary for children, schools and families (and neocon apologist-in-chief for The Times) Michael Gove, Deputy First Minister of Scotland (but for how much longer?) Nicola Sturgeon, and writer and broadcaster (and general media tart) Hardeep Singh Kohli.
And for those who are staying up extra late for BBC1’s This Week, Robert Winston (yawn), Quentin Letts and Denis Murray on forgiveness will be on hand to lighten the atmosphere alongside Andrew Neil, Michael Portillo and Diane Abbott.

Interesting to see the head of steam in France about bailing out bankers. I wonder if it could happen here?
Oh dear, Hardeep was clearly watching last week and has learned that there’s an easy round of applause to be had by suggesting that all the parties club together.
Gove, Falconer : Very sorry about the Palestinians – But …. excuse, excuse, excuse.
So, Jo, Hardeep and Nicola all disagreed with the BBC’s decision over the Gaza appeal (as do I), and what do each of them do? Hardeep makes a joke of it and says he’s not allowed to make an appeal, coming across as a peculiarly knobbish combination of self-righteous and shallow; Jo instantly shows that you can, in fact, make an appeal, by giving the website and then answering the question; and Nicola makes a well-researched but bizarrely point-scoring comment that the BBC is wrong because they’ve reversed the position they took in 1967.
Can you imagine what the SNP would say about any other issue if the answer for not doing something was “No, we did it this way 42 years ago and absolutely nothing in the world has changed since”. A perfect example of the kind of Question Time answer that sounds superficially sensible but is actually mad as a box of frogs.
Is Michael Gove the most oily man in the world?
I only ask.
Yes. Yes he is.
My distain for playground insults prevents me from making some joke about him being so oily that his chin has slipped off.
