SPONSORED: Gatwick’s plan is simpler, cheaper, faster and quieter

Gatwick__FINAL_RGB

At Gatwick, we believe the economic benefits of airport expansion must be balanced with the impact on the environment. Only Gatwick can offer the new runway the UK needs but at a fraction of the environmental cost of other options.

Air quality is a critical issue in the debate over where the UK’s next runway should be built – indeed, it has been a major factor in the vehement opposition to previous attempts by Heathrow to expand. The issue has now become fundamental to the choice that lies ahead. It is an issue that cannot be ignored.

The area around Heathrow currently breaches legal air quality limits and it defies common sense that a third runway – with hundreds of thousands of extra car journeys that it would bring – is the solution to the problem.  Air quality has been a showstopper for Heathrow before and it is now clear that it will be again.

In contrast, Gatwick has never breached legal air quality limits and its location means it can guarantee that it never will. This decision is about the economy and the environment.

Gatwick’s plan is simpler, cheaper, faster and quieter – above all it can actually happen.

SPONSORED: Cheaper, Simpler, Faster, Quieter – with Gatwick, Britain’s new runway can actually happen

With a new Government in place, the issue of airport expansion will become one of the first major decisions for the new administration to make.

Cheaper. Simpler. Faster. Quietier.

Despite a new intake of MPs, a new Government and a new Cabinet, the same divisions of old remain with opponents to Heathrow resolute.

With the election decided, the Airports Commission – appointed by the Government to come up with a solution to the need for more runway capacity in the South East – will now be finalising its recommendation on where the UK’s next runway should be built.

A decision on where Britain’s next runway should be built is expected this summer and, even after years of debate, Gatwick’s expansion plan remains the best and most deliverable solution to the need for extra capacity.

For the first time, Gatwick has been allowed to stake its claim for expansion. Heathrow’s plan would blight the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and reinforce a high-cost monopoly provider at the expense of passengers – but now, finally, there is an alternative.

While the airport expansion debate has rolled on for decades, what everyone can unite around is the fact that something needs to happen. Expanding Gatwick will provide the connectivity and capacity the UK needs, help the industry respond to change, and encourage competition, innovation, and growth.

Gatwick’s plan is flexible to serve all airline business models and will reflect changing business trends meaning it can deliver more passengers and more destinations, earlier. It can provide the economic boost the UK needs and will boost choice, and enhance competition at a fraction of the cost of expansion at Heathrow.

Momentum is gathering behind Gatwick’s case for airport expansion in the South East as the debate over where the UK’s next runway should be built reaches a crucial point.

The Commission will have to consider a range of factors in making its final decision but the consultation document indicates why expansion at Gatwick best answers all the questions. It can give the country two world class airports.

Sponsored Post: The plan for a quieter Heathrow expansion

Heathrow drives the economic competitiveness of London and the South East. Its uniquely attractive catchment area, in turn a result of Heathrow’s connectivity, results in Heathrow’s airlines flying more premium seats per aircraft than any other major hub. The Thames Valley is home to the European headquarters of ten of the top 30 global brands: an economic powerhouse dependent on access to global markets.

We at Heathrow Hub believe that our scheme has significant advantages over every other proposal under consideration.
