MoneySavingExpert is reporting that Nick Clegg answered an open letter to David Cameron before the Tories managed to get their boots on:
It came about in an unusual way. Clegg (pictured, right) is one of the 3.5 million recipients of the MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) weekly money tips email. In it, three weeks ago, he spotted an open letter to David Cameron where MSE asked the Tory leader to back the campaign for automatic refunds.
While Cameron has not replied, Clegg, and his Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable, in a letter to MSE this week (see full text below), have promised to table a Parliamentary motion after the summer recess.
Nick also uses his letter to the financial expert blogger to plug the forthcoming consumer protection policy paper at Bournemouth conference next month.

Funny – I raised this issue on the private forum many moons ago – saying what a good campaign it might be for us (bearing in mind he has 4,000,000 hits a week). But it received a less than positive response…
…obviously Nick Clegg doesn’t read the private forum.
Martin Lewis’s site wouldn’t be a bad place for a spot of subtle electioneering, given that it’s far more widely read than any political blog and reaches exactly the kind of people whose votes we need. Far better it’s us than the T*xp*yers’ Alliance. Plus we have Vince and the other parties do not.
Can’t believe this was dismissed as a campaign on the forum – I know a number of people trying to reclaim charges and it would be incredibly popular! What’s also interesting are some of the replies to the post – not least Martin Lewis’ comments. The negative posts are all by new users or first posters – I suspect trolls and cybernats again!
KL – I am a regular on the site and the anti-posts are certainly not all by new users or first posters. Certainly there are some but not all. There are also some new users and first posters backing us so your characterisation is rather unfair unless they are also trolls and cybernats.
I would have thought it would be far better instead of whining to do what I have done, and post a supportive message to Nick, instead.
