Fiyaz Mughal, Haringey councillor, former contender to stand as Liberal Democrat candidate for mayor of London, and occasional blogger was yesterday named an officer of the Order of the British Empire in HM The Queen’s birthday honours list in recognition of his services to the voluntary sector.

That is wonderful news and well deserved.
Yes, congrats to my fellow-councillor. Glad my Facebook comment of two hours ago was picked up.
Congrats to Fiyaz. I don’t know him very well, but he seems like a good bloke.
Overall, though, we should be arguing for the ridiculous honours system to be scrapped completely.
