If you’ve had a busy weekend, you might want to reward yourself with a wee cocktail. There’s a new one on the market. Trouble is, you’d have to go to Inverness to drink it, but that’s no hardship. It is one of the loveliest places on earth, after all and I’m not just saying that because I was born there.
The “Beaker” cocktail, created in Danny Alexander’s honour, is on sale in an Inverness bar for either £4 or £6 depending on the day of the week.
The Press and Journal has the story:
The cocktail, which sells for £4 on Tuesdays to Fridays and £6 on Saturdays to Mondays, comprises apple and cinnamon vodka, sweet rose wine, passion fruit juice, sugar and apple juice garnished with a cherry for the nose and a bit of orange for the hair.
The creation was a team effort by Bar One manager Grant Murray, assistant manager Simon Nixseaman and their colleague Martin Calderwood as part of new additions to an ever evolving cocktail choice.
Grant said: “We change themes every month. After an exchange of ideas, we decided to do the Muppets.
“Going through the names, Beaker obviously came up and we thought it would be fun if Danny Alexander came in to give the thumbs-up. Low and behold, he was keen to do that.”

say what you like about the “Ginger Rodent” but he’s certainly got a sense of humour and doesn’t take himself too seriously 🙂
I created the following cocktail a few years ago in honour of the long-standing member for NE Fife:
To serve at least 4: Ming Campbell – pour over ice into jug 1 measure each of Blackwood gin, Crabbies Green Ginger Wine, cointreau and half a measure each of advocaat and orange juice. Stir, pour into bottom of champagne flute and top up with Cairn o Mohr strawberry and elderflower sparkling wine. Garnish with a slice of orange or, if you can manage it, 5 slices of physalis arranged to suggest the Olympic rings.
