Dunfermline by-election: why are you in?

Tim Brett why are you inThe Scottish Parliament by-election for the Dunfermline seat is well under way now. Our candidate Susan Leslie and leader Willie Rennie have had a great reception on the doorsteps. The other night there was a reminder of why we do this. It’s all about making people’s lives better. A woman ran up to Willie and Susan in the street and thanked him profusely. I can’t say what he’d done for her while he was MP for Dunfermline but this had been her first chance to say thanks. His intervention had brought about something truly life-changing for her and she was delighted.

For me, being involved in the campaign is quite emotional. I spent 4 years as Willie’s caseworker, helping him tackle some horrendous problems faced by local people. We put our hearts and souls into it. Susan is one of those people who puts her heart and soul into helping her constituents. I know that from knocking up in her ward on polling day. The voters had turned themselves out and every single one of the hundreds I spoke to said how brilliantly she’d helped them.

The picture shows Susan’s Group Leader, Cllr Tim Brett saying why he has come to help her campaign.

Other reasons people have given include:

To build a stronger economy in a fairer society enabling everyone to get on in life #onmessage

Because Dunfermline deserves better

Because Susan Leslie gets things done for people

Because Scotland needs more strong Lib Dems to fight for us

To support Susan

Because we are in next door seat and friends help each other out. Also, I owe Susan for all the Kirkcaldy campaigning

Our campaign office at 29 Canmore Street is open every day. You can volunteer or donate to Susan’s campaign here. Even if you live far away, there’s always telephone canvassing to be done.

Thanks, James. We certainly do. Willie is doing an amazing job and Susan is the sort of person who would take the same approach to people as he does – compassionate, tenacious in fighting for them and she’s also has a very sensible and pragmatic attitude and is staying out of the inevitable and unattractive mudslinging between Labour and SNP.

I think it will be a narrow win for Labour. SNP second. Tories will be ahead of the LibDems because you have lost the trust of the electorate. You have little chance of retaking your deposit and I think that result is well deserved.
