As I’ve already pointed out, Iain Dale should really have asked a question or two before printing the story he was fed yesterday by the Conservative Party about horrible Lib Dem deeds involving the use of photos.
Perhaps something along the lines of, “Look, this horrible thing you want me to write about the Liberal Democrats doing in Ealing. Could you just reassure me that as we speak the Conservatives in Ealing aren’t doing exactly the same thing? Because you know, if they are, that might make me look a bit silly?”
On a whim though I’ve just looked at the Conservative Party’s official, national website (www.conservatives.com). And what did I find? Well let’s just say Iain perhaps should have also asked: “Look, this horrible thing you want me to write about the Liberal Democrats doing in Ealing. Could you just reassure me that as we speak the Conservatives aren’t doing the same thing on their own official national website?”
It take a little bit of digging to find, but it would be a shame to spoil the fun and post up the direct web link now. I think I might just leave it a while and let someone over at CCHQ frantically search their website for the content they now want to delete 🙂
P.S. More Conservative leaflets to add to the other Parliamentary by-electione example to come latter if I’ve not got bored with this by then. Can you guess what they contain too?

Three Iain Dale articles in one day. This is ridiculous. Happy birthday Iain. Please ignore us.
Mark Pack sems to have a thing for Iain, doesn’t he, Laurence?
Yes, I reckon he’s in love!
Should Grant Shapps be using the HoC badge on his website, with all the Con Assoc stuff on it? Can someone ask the Sgt at Arms.
Well done, Mark. Excellent work. The Tories are always so keen to trot out the old “LibDems are nasty fighters” when it’s the Tories themselves who will try any low trick. Notice how Iain has made no mention of the £4,800 donation the Tory candidate in Ealing gave to Labour only last month.
And, yes, I now await a comment from Laurence Boyce explaining to me why LibDems are dreadful and the Tories are the way, the truth and the light.
Sorry Iain it gets even worse and worse and worse

No, I suspect the parties are all as bad as each other. Of course we could rise above the fray if we were so minded, but judging by the Lib Dem Blogosphere we appear not to be.
Iain was openly discussing the £4,800 cheque last night on News 24.
Laurence, Mark isn’t being “as bad” as the Tories. He is placing evidence on the record why their charges against us are a load of hypocritical nonsense because it’s something they do themselves.
Yes, Iain Dale did mention it on News 24, but only to say how it was great news for the Tories because they get a photo of Tony Lit in all the newspapers. A logic worthy of Pravdale.

I’ll have to take your word for it. I really can’t be bothered to follow the minutiae of the argument, and I doubt the electorate will either.
Laurence, if you can’t be bothered to follow it, don’t comment.
The Tories are total hypocrites on this. They play holier than though with their constant “Lib Dem dirty tricks” jibe. It has all worn too thin, and it is time they got a dose of their own medicine. I realise you have only been in the party for a very short time, but those of us who have been around for a long time know that this constant Tory drip drip drip of “Lib Dem dirty tricks” makes the press and damages us – but the Tories are total hypocrites, and need to be exposed.
I’m not convinced that “Lib Dems fight dirty but we’re not as bad as the Tories” should really be our election slogan of first choice.
Laurence, you are the only one saying we fight dirty (post 7) – I don’t think anyone is saying that we should just claim we’re not “as bad as the Tories”.
The Tory party is completely hypocritical: they like to trot out the refrain about Lib Dems being cynical careerists who would do or say anything to get elected. A favoured tactic of theirs is to make unsupported accusations and get them covered by the press to suggest to the public there’s no smoke without fire. To fail to refute this rubbish on a website mainly used by party activists would not be “rising above it”. How long would it be before we heard “but they didn’t deny it!”?
Are you saying that Lib Dems never fight dirty? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. (Apologies for quoting Jesus.)
Er, it depends what you mean by “fight dirty”? I don’t believe that Cowley Street organises questionable campaigning. In the history of the Liberal party, I’m sure some individual candidates and activists have participated in things I wouldn’t approve of. The Conservatives (a) claim that all Lib Dem candidates and the party itself always fight dirty and (b) has clearly shown that it’s more than capable of fighting dirty and that such muck runs near enough to the top of CCHQ – or does at the moment. I don’t think refuting the Tories’ favourite and unsubstantiated claims about Lib Dems by pointing out what the Tories are doing is a bad thing.
And the thing that’s always got me about the quote above – it’s only ever bandied about by those people who want to stop anyone pointing out that their holier-than-thou reputation is just a fascade.
Sorry, I’m clearly not the spelling police. Facade *Ahem*
