Lib Dem Voice was launched 20 years ago today, on 27th August 2006.
In that time we have published 38,490 posts and 530,761 comments, and each has been lovingly read and edited by our team. Our Founding Editors were Mark Pack, Rob Fenwick and Will Howells and they were joined in by Stephen Tall and Richard Huzzey. You can see a full list of current and past editors here: The Liberal Democrat Voice team.
Over the years more than 3000 people have contributed posts. Our current Editor, Caron Lindsay, has penned an astonishing 4311 posts for LDV, just beating Mark’s 4106.
Here are a couple of memorable posts from the past:
- +++Breaking: Stephen Tall completes charity naked run as promised (and the full evidence here on the BBC: Lib Dem blogger’s naked run after election bet – BBC News)
- LDVideo: So you want to watch 6mins 23secs of Lembit Öpik in a wrestling ring? You got it…
- Liz Truss revealed as deep cover Liberal Democrat “sleeper” agent – with that photo of her campaigning with Mark Pack. (Hang on, that might have been an April Fool)
Do add links in the Comments to other historic posts that readers might enjoy.
We have marked the passing of some great and interesting politicians.
- Liberal Democrat Voice pays tribute to Shirley Williams – personal memories from the LDV team
- Tribute: HRH Nana Gyamera-Gyechie I (Godfried Eugene Gyechie) – a former Lib Dem councillor who was enthroned as a Prince in Ghana
- More warm tributes to Bob Maclennan
- Moving message from Tim Farron about Jo Cox MP’s murder
- Nelson Mandela – the long walk is over
April Fool’s posts have hoodwinked a surprising number of (presumably) rational Lib Dems.
- Secret Lib Dem-UKIP talks revealed – which included this proposal:
Give parents the absolute right to choose the school their child should attend. All schools must offer places to all the children who apply. The maximum permissible class size will rise to 50. Older pupils may be used as teachers’ assistants in larger classes. Individual desks with lids and storage for books will replace group tables in order to fit the children in.
- Lib Dems take action to clean up language – be careful with those Heidelberg colons
- Autumn Conference will be all at sea – in which we take over a cruise ship
- Government to bring 2013 local elections forward to last Thursday in February – because we all love winter election campaigns
So if you have enjoyed Lib Dem Voice over the years do please consider supporting us financially. We are dependent on you, dear readers, to cover our tech costs. This is a large website so we can’t do it for free! Please donate here: Donate.
