Good evening Iain!

A lovely and cheery good evening to you Iain. I hope you are having a lovely birthday.

I thought it might be helpful to point out that, as you’ve run a story about how awful the Liberal Democrats were for using a photo, you should perhaps check out your own blog posting of July 3rd.

I’m afraid Duncan Borrowman has already noticed that you’ve used a photograph yourself from a Liberal Democrat leaflet without getting permission, but I’m sure it’s not too late to put matters right. I’d do something quite quickly if I were you though, because it does rather look like you’ve personally done the very thing your story criticises the Liberal Democrats for doing?

And at that, I think I’ll call it a day on the issue. After all, once it’s been pointed out that the Conservatives in Ealing, the Conservative Parliamentary by-election team and the Conservatives’ national website have all done the very thing Iain Dale has reported the Tories attacking the Lib Dems for doing, there’s not really anything left to add to the pile of silliness is there? Though it’d be fun for Iain to ask the person who fed him this story how they explain away all this hypocrisy…

Yes, I think so. Point made and really time to move on.

  • “Yes, I think so. Point made and really time to move on.”

In other words, our attempt at injecting fear into the LibDems with our talk of legal action is a miserable and sad failure, and so let’s move on, please.

  • As a Liberal Democrat member, I have been receiving daily emails, urging me to come and help in both by-elections and to spend every available minute I have working to try and get Nigel Bakhai in particular elected.

It is therefore slightly surprising and also more than slightly disappointing to see such a senior member of the campaigns department as Mark Pack spending so much of this important final weekend (a) investigating and (b) reporting on his investigations into matters, which will quite frankly, will achieve bugger all and are more about point scoring against a Tory blogger.

Mark, you are one of the party’s best assests. I know how committed you are to this party and that you are already working bloody hard.

However, if Ealing really is as close as it all seems, the party really needs you to focus on what is important.

  • Thank you Kevin, largely 🙂

When left unrebutted attacks on the party not infrequently end up in the mainstream media and read by hundreds of thousands – which is why responding vigorously (and in factual detail, so it’s credible) is important.

  • Quite right, Mark, and I think (contrary to some comments) that your rebuttals have been vigorous and factual. And thanks to your work, others have been able to comment on Iain Dale’s site so that those reading it hear the other side too.

  • As someone who spend a little time helping to rebut the ridiculous story about posters (for which, surprise, surprise, no evidnec has appeared) I agree that it is important to rebut silly accusations quickly and robustly.

Like Mark, it hasn’t stopped me putting the hours in on the by-election work!!

Firstly I doubt what Mark is posting here is impacting on his commitment to Ealing.

Secondly as his job covers the effect of new media on elections I’d expect him to be looking at how the blogosphere is used to spread political attacks and ways in which they can be countered.
