If the Daily Mail is to be believed [insert own punchline here] Conservative Party foreign secretary William Hague is to address this year’s Lib Dem conference, offering (apparently) “a ‘witty’ address, rather than focusing heavily on policy” – which seems right up Mr Haugue’s street.
In eager anticipation of this event, we at Lib Dem Voice have dug out some of the highlights of Tory conferences from yesteryear right up to the present to illustrate quite how far David Cameron’s party has travelled in the last three decades.
First up, here’s Rowan Atkinson slipping into the role of Golfing Tory under Mrs T:

Secondly, here’s Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry enjoying the Young Tory of the Year contest during John Major’s reign:

Penultimately, here’s a rather grainy Harry Enfield in full-throated Tory Boy rant against New Labour:

And finally we come right up to date with perhaps the most laughable caricature of them all:

We should have ordered Boris instead. That would be value for money!
Excellent clips, but in these days of coalition, you should surely show a bit more balance by including specimens from LibDem conferences as well. So you’ve prompted me to get on the case, and the first clip from my archives, starring David Steel in 1981, can now be inspected at http://su.pr/2xOtVB And there may be more such gems on the way in due course ….
Thanks, Max – to reassure you LDVideo has shown balance over its many episodes – eg, https://www.libdemvoice.org/youtube-cos-we-want-to-jeremy-david-and-paddy-15358.html
Archives of all LDVideos are here: https://www.libdemvoice.org/category/youtube
Might this not be eerily appropriate?
You haven’t mentioned Quintin Hogg, dressed only in swimming trunks, ringing a bell on Brighton beach.
