The party today relaunched its free SMS service to send urgent news direct to your mobile phone.
The Twitter service was last used to send out information on election night, and has been quiet since.
But today a new message arrived:
Thanks for subscribing – we’re relaunching! We’ll send occasional party news, like TV spots, leadership poll news and campaign launches.
And in amongst the details on the party’s website about the leadership election, was the following information
Get news by text message with Twitter
You can now get free new updates from the party direct to your mobile phone using the Twitter service, which will include leadership election news. You will get around two messages a month, such as reminders of when party films (PPBs) are appearing on TV and news about new national campaign launches. To sign up, send a text message to 07624 801 423 saying: follow libdems
You will then also need to reply to the confirmation message you get. You will pay your standard text charges for these two messages, but there are no subsequent charges for receiving messages from the party through this service.
You can also track the messages via the Twitter website, http://twitter.com/libdems
Other Lib Dems who use Twitter – an exciting sort of cross between blogging and texting, include, erm, me, Duncan Hames, Martin Tod, and Will Howells.

Will this be like on ‘PM’ and it tells you when Nick Clegg is having a cup of coffee, or when someone is flicking paper clips at Chris Huhne or when there is gossip that two Lib Dem members are ‘not speaking’ to each other ?
The local election results service was rather good, although it followed the Lib Dem News approach of giving out only glad tidings. I hope the revived service is useful, and that the content is not too trivial.
“Around 2 messages a month” suggests there won’t be the space for paperclip flicking messages.
It’s a shame the PM twitter stopped. I miss hearing how bored the BBC staff are before their shows start.
