The BBC reports that Liberal Democrat MP for Portsmouth South, also a Councillor on the City’s Council, is being investigated for a breach of the Council’s Code of Conduct.
The Council’s lawyer is quoted as saying:
A sub-committee of Portsmouth City Council today decided to refer a complaint against councillor Mike Hancock for investigation.
I will now appoint an independent lawyer to carry out an investigation.
If a breach is proved against a councillor, they can be censured for their conduct.
A spokesman for Mike Hancock said:
The allegations have previously been investigated by the police but no further action was taken.”
Mike Hancock will co-operate fully with the investigations of the city council and does not feel it appropriate to comment further.
In the meantime he is recovering from major heart surgery and will continue to serve his constituents as an MP and a councillor to the best of his ability.

Mike Hancock is the only Lib Dem member in the Commons who represents the Lib Dems in the All Party Group on Child Abduction. For those who do not know about the subject, it is a group of MP’s who have input into the subject of children removed without consent and not returned to the country concerned. It causes much misery to all.
I have asked the office of Nick Clegg if he feels this to be fair to those who voted for the Lib Dems? Still no reply. I have made comments on the FCO web page, on the subject of human rights and the right to justice.
I hope that Mike Hancock will feel better soon, I have little interest in anything else, My main interest is that human rights are the upper most in our minds.
