Something to cheer us on a cold, wintry Spring afternoon.
I’m rarely comfortable about linking to the Daily Mail, but for once it has some good news for Liberal Democrats, although, of course, it doesn’t realise it.
Today, it points to a survey which shows the 10 places in Britain with the happiest residents – and six of them are run, or have recently been run by Liberal Democrats.
Harrogate tops the poll with Stockport, St Albans, Kingston upon Thames, Bath and Truro also in the top ten.
Clearly, as Ben Page from Ipsos MORI points out, it’s hardly a definitive survey, but it’s something that should encourage Liberal Democrats in the run-up to the local elections in May.
Councillors play a vital role in building their communities and Liberal Democrats have a reputation for being very closely attached to their wards and being aware of and dealing with people’s concerns. It’s that old ethos of community politics which is hardwired into our grassroots.

Err, nothing to do with the types of places are ?
Nice, attractive places to live, lots of middle class residents, why would they be miserable ?
Probably a lot of them looking forward to their higher rate tax cut curtesy od the Coalition.
Funnily enough, Ipswich was run by a Conservative/Liberal Democrat administration from 2004 until 2011.
Well I live in Kingston upon Thames and I’m a grumpy git!
Curmudgeonly soul, our first contributor, isn’t he?
And he obviously hasn’t been to Ipswich either, hardly middle class and wealthy. Parts of the county – particularly the coast – maybe, but not Ipswich…
Which is cause and which is effect?
Lib Dem influence = happy residents
-OR-
Happy residents = Lib Dem influence
What do you think?
If this is truly a survey of British places how come all of the top 10 are in England?
Where are Scotland or Wales? I’ll even say why Britain and not the UK to include Northern Ireland?
Nowhere in the report does it mention the best place in either Scotland or Wales to what is the Fail actually talking about?
