A more personal letter this week, as you can see from the headline. An insight into the day to day life of a party leader and Deputy Prime Minister, along with a lovely video of him and Miriam at the Great Ormond Street Hallowe’en party. Then you have the message that the Liberal Democrats have once again delivered in Government – with more powers to Wales – and an account of a trip to the pub with Sheffield students. He ends with a challenge to readers – to sign up a member of the party or join themselves.
Half term week has taken me out and about across the country, talking about everything from Halloween pumpkins to the finer points of fiscal devolution.
Miriam and I had a real treat attending a Halloween party at Great Ormond Street Children’s hospital, where patients, parents, nurses and doctors alike were in costume, and ready for fun, whatever the illnesses they were battling.
Check out the video of our visit here.
On Friday, I was in Wales with the Prime Minister, announcing further devolution to Wales, including tax and borrowing powers for the Welsh Assembly Government. There’s no way this level of decentralisation would be happening if it wasn’t for Liberal Democrats in government.
The final highlight of my week was meeting new student party members and supporters in Sheffield, over a pint in the local pub. They had a hugely successful Freshers’ Week this year, recruiting lots of new supporters and enthusiasts.
So my challenge to you this weekend is this: follow Sheffield Students’ example. Sign someone up to the party – yourself if you’re not yet a member! And help spread the word about the Liberal Democrats, the only party able to deliver a stronger economy and a fairer society.
Happy half term week, happy Halloween, and happy bonfire night for Tuesday, too.

I have to say I think the headline for this piece leaves much to be desired; I suspect the writer is different to the writer of the rest of the piece, who states in a more modest way that ‘Miriam and (Nick) had a real treat’ attending the event, not that she was some Marie Antoinette-like lady bountiful dispensing the generous benefit of her presence on these fortunate children. To be clear, this is not an attack on the leader and his wife, good for them doing this, but on the clumsy headline and the impression it gives.
Can I just be clear that the headline is as it was emailed, not an invention of Lib Dem Voice.
