In a confident speech earlier this morning, Sarah Green said she was humbled by the faith the people of Chesham and Amersham had placed in her.
Together, we have said enough is enough. We will be heard. And this government will listen.
No matter how safe the seat, you can have a Lib Dem representative.
Sarah had a message for young women. Don’t let people put you down or block your way. You can. You must. You will.

Sarah thanked the returning officer and the Lib Dem team. She then addressed her constituents:
To the people of Cheshire and Amersham, thank you. I am humbled by the faith you have placed in me… I will be a strong independent voice for all of our communities. I will always put you first and continue to listen to your views while holding this government to account.
One the subject of strong and independent voices in our world, I have a message for every young woman out there. There will be people who will try to put you down. Who will try to block your way and tell you that you can’t. I am here tonight to tell you that you can. You must. And you will.
Every voice should ring with equal strength, equal power and equal value. That is what the Liberal Democrats stand for. That is what the people of Chesham and Amersham have voted for.
Tonight, the voice of Chesham and Amersham is unmistakeable. Together, we have said enough is enough. We will be heard. And this government will listen.
This campaign has shown that no matter where you live, or how supposedly safe the constituency appears to be, if you want a Liberal Democrat member of parliament, you have a Liberal Democrat member of parliament. If you wish to reject Conservative mismanagement and vote for a voice that will represent you, and stand up for your rights, then it is a Liberal Democrat who will continue to fight your corner.
Under Ed Davey’s leadership, we are the party that is taking on this government and time and time again. We are a party that is winning against them.
I’d like to thank Ed for his outstanding support for our campaign.

Once you realise it begins with the charisma of a candidate, then the message needs to be mainstream, and the campaign be clear, you can win!
Too often parties do not choose from enough people, shortlists too short, committees too involved. Here a local woman selected as an individual , a talented one, not an identity. Here is a reason to now abolish all women lists, women know they win on merit !!!!!!!!!!!
Many congratulations to Sarah. I worked with her for almost a year around 2007 and later I joined one of her early campaigns in Bangor for a day, travelling in from afar. From experience Sarah was great to work with, professional and caring, and with excellent political instincts. Chesham and Amersham will benefit from that. Most of all though, I am thrilled that the country has been taught a valuable lesson: this wretched Conservative government can be defeated.
@Lorenzo – I don’t think we’re allowed all women shortlists any more for Westminster as we have majority female representation. Though I do think they are still of value in some circumstances.
I do, however, agree that there’s a lot to be said for having a charismatic candidate. There are a lot of candidates who are nice and hard working, and who will do a perfectly good job, but it’s much easier to get the attention of the floating voters and the much needed media attention if they are charismatic. And of course already well known and respected within the local community.
