Where has the vote gone…. ?
The South West is ok-ish…here’s hoping for some movement from the North…
Conservatives have taken Dover, thought Labour might of held on to that.
Darling holds on in Edinburgh South West.
Swing of 6.1% from Con to Lib Dem in Spelthorne.
Re-post from last thread:
Cameron’s misleading soundbite ‘ we have won more seats than at any time since 1920s’ – he means ‘gained’, but he’s spinning it to the ignorant. WE MUST CHALLENGE IT WHEREVER WE SEE HIM QUOTED.
Cue a FB group? If the Tories are a minority, they must not claim to have won.
I’ll be gutted if Evan Harris losses his seat.
Well, i can rest easy Lewes is a Lib dem hold
But 8.6% the other way in Surrey South West. Huge differences between nearby seats.
2.2% swing Con to Lib Dem on the Isle of Wight.
Spelthorne has ethnic minority? Tory candidate, judging from his name – so not something to be terribly proud of…
Labour Hold Oxford East that is bad for us.
Lab hold Oxford East.
Hampshire swings Lib Dem to Con: Havant: 1.8%; New Forest East: 3.2%.
Hold Brecon & Radnor and Cardiff Central
0.4% swing Lib Dem to Tory in Runnymede.
Edinburgh North Labour hold
Lab hold Edinburgh north and Leith as well.
LD Hold Newton Abbott
Richard Younger-Ross back in Newton Abbot
I really can’t believe what is happening to the libdems, hope for change is fast diminishing, 🙁 not a good day for the people of Britain at all, if anything comes from this it is a comfirmation of the need for PR we can’t go on being scammed like this…
Good result about Burnely, disapointing with Newcastle.
Eastbourne is the only Tory loss.
Now sky reporting Newton Abbot Con gain.
BBC have just said Conservatives have gained Newton Abott, confused.
4.8% swing Con to Lib Dem in Wycombe.
Con gain Newton Abbot surely (Sky)
Newton Abbot is my former home seat. I was nervous, well done R-Y-R….:-)
Fantastic result for Amy Kitcher, up 17 per cent in the seat Keir Hardie made the Labour catalyst in 1912, the valleys of Merthyr Tydfil. Amazing effort.
But more sad news…Newton Abbot now being reported as a Conservative gain.
BBC reporting Newton Abbot as a Tory gain too.
Confirmation….
Sky confirmed Newton Abbott loss.
Con gain Bedford from Lab. Another LD target missed.
Chris Huhne looks really down on Sky, reaaly disapointing night – very honest on Lembit.
BBC reporting Lib Dems gain Burnley.
Turnout in Oxford east massively up c 12,000 looking at wikipedia. Half to lab, rest split btwn us and Tories, alas.
BBC reporting Lib Dems gain Burnley. On a 9.6% swing.
Mike Hancock may now hold Pmoth south, according to the BBC…
Looks like th high turnout in many places was all extra people voting for the bloody Tories!
Ld hold Caitness
Rochdale labour hold
Sod it – Paul Rowen may have lost in Rochdale.
We’ve lost Rochdale. FFS.
Lib Dem hold Berwickshire
what? Rochdale…!!!! NOOOOO
ITV say Stephen Williams has held Bristol West
Labour looking happy in Ashfield.
Small swings in Surrey: Reigate: 0.9% Lib Dem to Con; Epsom: 2.1% Con to Lib Dem; Surrey E: 0.7% Con to Lib Dem.
Tories gain Hastings, but on a swing of only 3.3% from Lab.
Rochdale had boundaries changed and it was always going to be tough, but, yes, needed a fair-wind behind it….
North Norfolk is held tho.
Another Newcastyle hold for Labour and we’ve held our Bristol seat.
Lab hold Newcastle East.
But Tories gain Carlisle on a swing of 7.7% from Lab.
Hold Norfolk North, lose Romsey confirmation of a bad night for us.
Sandra Gidley’s just gone.
Ashfield not taken
Labour hold Ashfield
Disappointing for Paul Rowen as well. Ashfield also held by Labour. A strong swing but another disappointment.
It’s becomng clear how Nick Clegg bottled it in the last week. All the smears about defence, tax credits and immigration were left unanswered in the complacency that his success in the first TV debate could be continued by mere repetition. As a party, the campaigning that typically leaves concentrated effort until the last moment was useless when I was invited to join a push for a seat 60 miles away the day before the election! We’ve got to be more professional. If we had capitalized on the efforts of Vince Cable and the first debate the country might not face such a crisis in which I foresee a breakup of the UK as Cameron’s bid to form a government in hoc to NI, Scots Nats and Plaid Cymru backfires.
Redcar gain, did I hear on ITV?
BBC reporting Romsey (Sandra Gidley) has gone to the Tories
Peter Kellner on the BBC is reasonably sure the Tories will fall short of a majority.
We gain Redcar, just shows what a strange and disapointing night this is for us.
Redcar yessss!
LD gain
Newcastle North being missed as well…?
What a bizarre result in Redcar! Mo Mowlam’s old seat. None of the long term North East targets seem to ahve fallen (e.g. Newcastle North) yet Redcar comes totally off the radar! This election is weird!
Huge swing in Redcar. Vera not popular there?
Beyond depressing. I can’t believe what I’m watching. This is soul-destroying to so many Lib Dems who’ve been really pushing this election.
3rd full recount Ed South….
I gather Vera Baird had expenses/aggression problems, but maybe it’s just that Labour didn’t think we were a threat, and didn’t defend it well enough? They are very good at getting their vote out in the marginals, whatever you think of them policy-wise. But this wasn’t a marginal.
Conservatives hold Devon Central
I hate Jack Straw, but he is a stunning campaigner. We need to steal his book of “How To Defend Your Seat Against All Comers”.
6.1% swing from LD to Con in Devon Central.
This is a weird election. Awesome results – Ceredigion, Redcar, Burnley, intermixed with a lot of poor ones. I think we’ll have to run the show better next time.
Should one pray for Evan? (As a Humanist, I’m just hoping…..)
Devon Central was a basket case from the start…
Tories take Wyre Forest.
Great idea to stand against Richard Taylor. A hedge fund manager will be far more use in the House of Commons.
Derby South gain for Lib Dems
Wyre Forest has gone Tory. They deserve to have their f…. hospital closed!
Whats going on, I don’t see how we can be doing so bad, given the support we saw in the polls and beside, I don’t see how this election can be valid with so many not able to vote
Now Sky reporting Lab hold Redcar.
Derby South marked as big hold for Labour, contra Kevin, above.
Con gain Herefordshire South from Lib Dem
Deciding whether to go to bed or not any good news. Hold onto Aberdeen West.
Labour hold Warley – swing to the Tories a pathetic 1.9%.
Now Sky reporting Lab hold Redcar.
Hasn’t the seat been declared?
Sky must be wrong on Redcar. There are numbers backing it up! Unless the PA wires have sent the wrong info.
Wyre Forest, utter disaster. Total Lib Dem fail. What is wrong with us strategically?
“Recount in Evan Harris’s Oxford West and Abingdon seat, fewer than 200 votes in it.”
Between whom.
Sorry rubbish Sky (Derby South)
And Sky now reporting Lab hold Derby South.
LDs hold Carshalton that wa a marginal.
Sky now corrected it – it is LD gain in Redcar
Tom Brake holds Carshalton.
Sky are crap. Watch ITV
Cornish seats in real trouble according to the BBC…
BBC predict Labour will get 26 per cent of the vote…. That is surely their lowest since, what, 1918?
Poss loss in Richmond i think is it for me, but am interested in Brighton and London.
That was a swing of 4.3% from the Tories to the Lib Dems in Carshalton.
Holds in Bath, North Devon, Carshalton…Redcar won on a swing of 21 per cent, thats the biggest swing of anyone’s win all night.
“That was a swing of 4.3% from the Tories to the Lib Dems in Carshalton.”
i thought that could go, which makes these results so surprising, but also infuriating.
Some of our best women are losing – are the Tories who’ve stayed at home since 97 all misogynists?
We’ve lost Chesterfield. Could this get much worse?
Swing to Labour from the Lib Dems in Birmingham Ladywood; but a swing of 7.7% from Labour to the Tories in the neighbouring seat of West Bromwich East.
ITV reports Chesterfield loss to Labour
Danny’s result in Inverness is pretty good – I was expeting a majority of about 5,500-6,000 but it’s actually over 8,000 – but achieved with just a 0.4% increase in share of vote – Labour down 8.8%.
LDs hold Colchester well done Bob Russell.
Another loss, the near miss in Ashfield rubbed in.
Evan Harris gone.
And likewise a swing of 7.6% from Labour to the Tories in West Bromwich West
Dire. Fail. Hideous results. We will be lucky to end up with 50+ seats.
Lost Oxford west officially depressed that’s it for me.
Well we may end up with less seats then we started with but at least we can throw clegg out at the next leadership election and finally make Vince Cable leader.
Poor Evan Harris. Someone make him a Lord, stat.
we’ve been horribly squeezed out, the trend is bad.
Cable is 66 now. Anyone really want to pitch a 71-year old into the next election?
Only a 4.5% swing from Labour to the Tories in Luton South, despite the expenses scandal.
8.3% swing Lab to the Lib Dems in Stoke Central.
York outer goes Conservative
New live-blog thread now open:
https://www.libdemvoice.org/the-ldv-election-night-liveblog-430-600-pm-19361.html
Clegg’s a good leader. The Lib Dems have been squeezed pretty hard it would seem. It appears that fear has been a big factor here.
I agree with Chris Jones….
Stephen:
“4.05 am
Sad news that Dr Richard Taylor, the independent MP in Wyre Forest, has lost to the Tories:
Conservative 18,793 36.9% (+7.8)
Richard Taylor Independent Community and Health Concern 16,115 31.7% (-6.9)
Labour 7,298 14.3% (-8.2)
Neville Farmer Liberal Democrat 6,040 11.9% (+10.6)”
What is really sad is if the Lib Dems had given way for Dr Taylor again then he most likely would have got back in.
I can only hope that we have another election in the Autumn and the Lib Dems give way to save us having an investment banking tory! As well as giving us back the best MP this constituency has ever had.
Aside: No connection with Dr Taylor’s party, apart from the fact I voted for him.
