The starting gun is fired in Runcorn & Helsby

News reaches us that Article 19.7 of the Federal Constitution has been triggered by the likelihood of a by-election in Runcorn & Helsby given that the sitting MP, Mike Amesbury is to be sentenced on 24 February having pleaded guilty to common assault on Thursday.

If you’re an approved Parliamentary candidate, and you’re interested, time is very short, as applications must be received by 6 p.m. tomorrow evening (21 January).

For more details, all relevant information can be found on the Cheshire West and Chester Local Party website.

  • In the past we would have been out there delivering leaflets as soon as the Labour fists began to fly. Why has this not happened? Anyone could see this was a realistic situation. Now Reform, not us, will be seen as the main challenger

  • Runcorn? We should be gearing up for Hampstead which is winnable.

  • @David – selecting the candidate isn’t the same as starting the campaign. I understand there has been local activity for some time.

Hampstead and Highgate is an unlikely bye-election but with seven councillors, it’s one we should be working hard in to become a realistic target.

  • Alan Jeff’s. I do hope your predilection for Hampstead over Runcorn is not indicative of the preoccupations and identity of the modern Lib Dem party, though I suspect it is. Please tell me I am wrong.
