Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #112

Welcome to the 112th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (5th-11th April 2009), together with a hand-picked quintet, mostly courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.

As ever, let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down.

1. The best and worst MPs on Duncan Borrowman’s blog.
Putting Derek Conway in his place.

2. Moston by election results. BNP COME IN SECOND PLACE GOD HELP US. on the Swinton South Liberal Democrats’ blog.
Further proof of the need for Lib Dems to campaign hard ‘n’ smart against the BNP.

3. More atheist jokes, please on ‘Costigan Quist’s’ Himmelgarten Cafe blog.
“The world doesn’t need more battles between extremists; it needs more moderates living together and accepting each others’ differences.” Sign Mr Quist up to Thought for the Day immediately.

4. Not to be out done by the expenses scandal the Lib Dems fight back with out of date Tax Disc. on the Swinton South Liberal Democrats’ blog.
Erm, I must have missed this story, and haven’t the faintest idea what it’s about.

5. UPDATED: Ian Tomlinson – C4 has footage too
by Alix Mortimer on Lib Dem Voice.
The video evidence that finally convinced the world (if not yet the media or rightwing blogs) that the policing of peaceful protests turns nasty far too often .

6. Tory bloggers: they don’t like it up ’em! on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
A salutary reminder that some Tories simply don’t understand what freedom means.

7. Liberal Democrats set to gain a seat in the European Elections
on Colin Ross’s blog.
From 12 to 13 MEPs – nothing’s gonna stop us now.

And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. As is now traditional we’re using the LibDig widget to select some of the posts from the seven days in question which you’ve most ‘dug’. But, remember, if you want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. Do you belong to a suspicious group? It’s hard not to these days by Helen Duffett on Lib Dem Voice.
‘Your handy guide to what counts as suspicious terrorist-like activity these days. In short – pretty much anything.’ (Submitted by markpack via LibDig).

9. Waddya know? the law is an ass! on wit and wisdom’s Frivolity Rules blog.
Share his pain.

10. And the Libertarian shall lie down with the Left
on Alix Mortimer’s Orwell-nominated The People’s Republic of Mortimer blog.
“I have found the divide between the liberal and the authoritarian becoming still more real for me over the last week. And as it grows, there will be a certain amount of jumping for various people to do.”

11. Express: EU gives rapists, killers & paedos the vote
on ‘Costigan Quist’s’ Himmelgarten Cafe blog.
While giving the rest of us cancer, probably.

12. The dreaded spectre of the straw Fabian on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
James and David Boyle slug it out (ever so politely).

That’s it for another week. Happy blogging.

  • Well knock me down with a feather. Top place for a one liner pointing to a newspaper story. But hey, it is worth it just to point out what a scumbag Derek Conway is.
