Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #96

Welcome to the 95th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (14th-20th December), together with a hand-picked quintet, mostly courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.

‘Tis the season of tradition, so let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down.

1. Are Lib Dems ‘down in the dumps’? on Darrell Goodliffe’s Moments of Clarity blog.
According to PoliticsHome.com’s PH100 panel we are. Speaking as a member of the PH100, I really wouldn’t take their word for it.

2. Lembit Opik: real men hate women on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
“Whichever way you dress it up though, the Daily Sport is misogyny.” Or, indeed, whichever way you dress it down.

3. Seven Sisters – an undertone from the Tories
on Neil Williams’ blog.
Any resemblance between Neil’s posting and this one by Darrell a couple of months ago is entirely coincidental.

4. Major group excluded from Tangerine Book on Alex Foster’s Niles’s Blog.
It appears that Mr Foster, editor of LDV’s 2008 annual, The Tangerine Book, is a bit of a bipedophile. But don’t let that put you off – you can buy it online right now at Lulu.com.

5. Laurence Williams, a new month, a new party
on Duncan Borrowman’s blog.
Any resemblance between Mr Laurence Williams and Dr David Owen is entirely coincidental.

6. Tory Central Office in a Spin………….. on Linda Jack’s Lindylooz Muze blog.
Tory turmoil in Bedford.

7. Opinion: How has the last year gone? by Alison Holmes on Lib Dem Voice.
“Our leadership is sure and the journey from here promises to get only more interesting.” That’s the spirit.

And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. And as is now traditional we’re using the LibDig widget to select some of the posts from the seven days in question which you’ve most ‘dug’. But, remember, if you want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. Chris Fox’s real job for the Liberal Democrats on Neil Stockley’s blog.
“Unless the leader embodies the narrative, it won’t seem real to people.” Neil identifies to whom we should look for that damned elusive narrative.

9. The Lib Dem search for a narrative will fail on ‘Costigan Quist’s’ Himmelgarten Café blog.
“No such thing can or will ever exist under our current political system.” Say it ain’t so, Costigan – what would the Lib Dem blogosphere talk about otherwise?

10. Lib Dems need a consistent message and no lurch to the left on ‘Richard Cobden’s’ Cobden’s Comments blog.
Nick Clegg has “blown it” with his call for a public spending splurge, says Cobden.

11. Brian Coleman and the Fire Brigade on Lynne Featherstone’s Parliament and Haringey Diary blog.
All together now: Brian Coleman is a total arse.

12. This book is too big
on Pink Dog’s blog.
Sometimes it takes a fluffy toy to point out the obvious – size really can matter. Did I mention you can buy LDV’s The Tangerine Book right now, right here?

That’s it for this week. Happy Christmas blogging.
