Vince Cable’s message for Passover

Here is Vince Cable’s message for Passover

Millions of Jewish families and friends across the world will come together tonight to celebrate Passover.

They will reflect on the struggle of the Jewish people to be free.

For people of all faiths and none, the story told at Passover is a reminder of the importance of freedom, and standing up for the oppressed.

It is also an opportunity for us to recognise the valuable contribution Britain’s Jewish communities make to our country today.

To everyone celebrating Passover, Chag Pesach Sameach!

Solidarity and friendship with each and every one of our Jewish friends!

  • Following Vince’s thinking I am reminded of Jonathan Sacks, former Chief Rabbi in the UK, who has made an enormous recent contribution to understanding of faith. He has strongly advocated respect for difference stating that the test of someone’s faith is whether or not they can see God in people whose beliefs are very different from their own. Thus he strongly advocates freedom and supports liberal democracy as a good form of government, rightly opposing theocracy. When organised religious groups gain political power, they forget freedom and oppress others with conformity, quite the opposite of the message of Passover.
