Mike Ross is one of our best hopes of winning a mayoral election in May.
The Hull Council leader is our candidate for Hull and East Riding Mayor.
We run the Council in Hull and have a long track record of vigorous, incessant campaigning there.
Here is Mike’s keynote speech to Conference this weekend.

Interesting to see that the LDs are back up to 16% in the latest YouGov poll, just 7% behind Lab, who lead. The LDs have carved out a useful position in British politics at the moment, anti-Trump, pro-Europe, and, domestically, a little to the left of Labour’s current position. If only they could get a little more exposure in the media, and the public understood their standpoint, there’s a big opportunity for them to exploit.
@ John Bicknell you say, “a little to the left of Labour’s current position”…………… in which case that puts them well to the right.
@David Raw. Whilst some (such as yourself) might want the LDs to adopt a Corbynite stance, I think Ed Davey’s positional instincts are well judged, and might, if he could just get a little more media attention, receive electoral benefits
In a recent YouGov poll, only 6% of people thought the state was too generous to the disabled. On this, you could be slightly to the left of Rachel Reeves and still in the most right-wing decile. In this area and in several others, David is right. Luckily, we are more than a little to her left.
@ Peter Davies Thanks for the kind words, Peter.
Just to let Mr Bicknell know, I joined the Liberal Party back in 1962 and, if anything, would describe myself as a Grimond Liberal. I do, however, to quote the 1970 Election slogan, think for myself.
Without wishing to prolong this exchange perhaps Mr Bicknell could tell us when he joined the party.
No one makes their arguments more valuable by telling us the year they joined the party.
Or more right.
