What’s on at Welsh Liberal Democrat Conference this weekend?

A public service announcement from the Welsh Liberal Democrats follows…

With record numbers of delegates attending and five Lib Dem Government Ministers taking part, the Welsh Liberal Democrat conference taking place this weekend already looks as if it’s going to be a memorable one.

Highlights on the agenda include:

  • Keynote speeches – Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg will be opening Conference, with speeches later on in the weekend also come from the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander and Welsh Liberal Democrat party Leader Kirsty Williams.
  • Gala dinner –Vince Cable MP will be guest speaker at the Conference Dinner. Unsurprisingly, tickets for this event have sold very fast, so if you wish to get a ticket you better do so ASAP!
  • Energy Forum Q&A – Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, Ed Davey, will be taking part in a Q&A with party members. With nuclear and wind farms high up the news agenda in Wales, this will certainly be an event to keep an eye out for.
  • Your Questions Answered – Featuring Wales Office Minister Baroness Randerson, Mark Williams MP, Roger Williams MP and former Welsh Party leader Lord German.
  • Debates – Alongside two policy papers – ‘Putting Pupils First: Improving School Standards in Wales’ and ‘Permission to Plan – Reforming the Planning Process in Wales’, there are also motions on the importance of political education in the curriculum and on the future of public transport for students and young people.

Fringes – including:
• ‘What Next for Devolution in Wales?’, alongside Danny Alexander MP
• Liberal Youth Wales will be hosting a Q&A with Vince Cable MP
• A reception with Nick Clegg MP for 1st time attendees
• The Federation of Small Businesses will be discussing the experience of SMEs in Wales
• The launch of the Social Liberal Forum in Wales
• Sustrans have an event on the future of transport in Wales

Training – Lessons from Eastleigh, Running an Effective Local Party, Campaigning with CONNECT, Using the Green Deal in your Campaigns, Recruitment and Retaining your Members, Diversity Training, Fundraising to win, and many more.
