Here at Voice Towers we don’t normally run press releases — but we’re going to make an exception for the sensational Lib Dem victory in this week’s annual Parliamentary Staff Rounders tournament…
Liberal Democrat team ‘winning here’ in Parliamentary Staff Rounders Tournament
Staff working for Liberal Democrat MPs braved the rain to take the trophy in this year’s annual Inter-Parliamentary Staff Rounders Tournament.
The competition, which was played in Hyde Park on 18th July, is now in its 9th year and was sponsored by communications and PR agency Fleishman-Hillard.
The Lib Dem team took on Labour, as the Conservatives failed to find enough people to field a team. The Liberal Democrats convincingly won the two ruthlessly competitive matches, which were umpired by Rounders England.
Staff from the following offices came along to take part in the games or to cheer on their team: Gordon Birtwistle, Tom Brake, Nick Clegg, Mike Crockart, Don Foster, John Hemming, Charles Kennedy, Stephen Lloyd, Dan Rogerson, Sir Robert Smith, Mark Williams, Roger Williams, Stephen Williams and Simon Wright.
Commenting, Lib Dem Team Captain Paul Edgeworth, Researcher to Dan Rogerson MP said:
“This year’s tournament was a two horse race – only the Liberal Democrats could beat Labour here, as the Conservatives couldn’t get enough people together to field a team. I am assured that the Tories’ absence from the competition was not part of the Coalition Agreement.
“When it comes to rounders, the Lib Dem staff now have a record of action and a promise of more – and with resounding victories in both of the matches, we still would have won under AV!”
Anthony Gale, who works for Charles Kennedy MP and who won the highest points scored award added:
“I would like to thank everybody for turning up and supporting the team. I would say it was a hard fought victory, but in all honesty, we trounced them. Lib Dems winning here.”
Fellow award winner John Williams, Researcher to Roger Williams MP, commented:
“I am very proud, this was the greatest victory for the Lib Dems over Labour since Bermondsey in ’83.”

I would have money on Labour winning ….. after all their practice at running round in circles.
i guess more than ever parliamentary staff need to have a sense of humour (it is a very funny press release)
