BBC: ‘Lib Dem candidate withdraws amid police probe’

The BBC reports:

A Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate has withdrawn from the general election amid a police investigation, the party said. David Murray was standing for The Wrekin seat in Shropshire.

A Lib Dem spokesman confirmed he was no longer contesting the seat but said he could not comment further “due to an on-going police investigation”.

West Mercia Police said it could not comment or confirm if Mr Murray was being investigated.

The Lib Dem spokesman said: “Mr Murray, on the advice of the party, has withdrawn as the candidate in the forthcoming election. We are unable to comment further due to an on-going police investigation.”
