Have you recovered from the May elections? Are you raring to go again? Well, obviously you will have things in your own patch to do, but you might also want to help our candidate Christine Jardine in the Aberdeen Donside Scottish Parliament by-election which takes place on 20th June.
For those of you far away from Aberdeen, you can phone bank through Connect. If you are within travelling distance, though, Willie Rennie is there today and Jo Swinson is there tomorrow to help Christine’s campaign. In an email to Scottish members, Jo encouraged people to join her:
I want you to come and join me as we tell people why Donside needs a strong Liberal voice at Holyrood, not another nationalist to bang the drum for independence.
This by-election is our chance to tell people in Aberdeen about some of the good things that Liberal Democrats in government have delivered for them. Liberal Democrat policies like the increase in the income tax threshold, which put £600 back in the pockets of over 100,000 people in Aberdeen this year.
The campaign HQ at 8 Scotstown Road is open every day and can be contacted on 07516 450672 or [email protected]

After reading this article I assumed we had a chance of winning it, thinking we were in second or a good third. Having looked at the result last time (we were fourth) this is unlikely. I have always been a firm believer in managing expectations and wish the party was too.
This is a strategically important seat as there are several wards in Malcolm Bruce’s Westminster constituency so it is definitely worth putting some effort in. Christine will also be familiar to LDV readers as we’ve done Lib Links to a few of her Scotsman pieces.
The article quotes Christine Jardine, “I want you to come and join me as we tell people why Donside needs a strong Liberal voice at Holyrood, not another nationalist to bang the drum for independence.” It doesn’t say parts of this seat are in Malcolm Bruce’s Westminster constituency and that this is no Eastleigh. And as the Liberal Democrat vote collapsed in 2012 we need help so we can rebuild in the hope we can keep Malcolm Bruce’s seat.
