London Liberal Democrats are making a push for funds to help them run the best possible final flourish to the campaign and get out the vote operation.
A You Gov poll indicated that if we can just get one more percentage point, we could beat UKIP and get Merlene Emerson elected as our third assembly member.
Caroline Pidgeon says on the London Liberal Democrats’ website:
Polls show that a handful of votes could separate UKIP and the Lib Dems on 5th May.
Those votes will either elect Merlene Emerson to join me on the Assembly, a British-Chinese liberal, or a prejudiced UKIP voice.
For every additional £500 we can contact 93,000 people with Facebook advertising to run alongside our targeted literature and canvassing. We’re aiming to raise £10,000 in the next few days so we can contact our target voters three times each on Facebook to maximise our chances of getting our vote out.
Four years ago we pushed the BNP off the London Assembly. And, by just a few votes, kept out UKIP as well. Help me make sure we do it again.

Caroline’s mayoral election campaign has been outstanding and has even won her the praise of her opponents. Let’s hope that she and her London colleagues make real progress next week.

Don’t get me wrong I’m sure Caroline is a great assembly member and I’m sure the other candidate is good too but there are two things which I think need to be said in response to the post above.
It’s not fair to brand UKIP as prejudiced. UKIP are not a racist party, they just have different but equally legitimate views on the European Union and immigration to yourselves.
To throw slur words like that at UKIP and their voters will only seek to alienate the lib dems from those people further. The lib dems should listen to all members of the public, even UKIP voters, and not just write off a certain section of society as some kind of biggots. That doesn’t mean the lib dems should necessarily alter their opinions and policies, but they shouldn’t dismiss others with slurs.
The lady’s race has nothing to do with it, that fact she is Chinese is surely irrelevant. People are individuals not faceless members of racial groups, the ladies race should even be meantioned, it should be all about what she can offer Londoners as an assembly member, being of a certain race in and of its self offers nothing and takes away nothing.
UKIPs Mayoral Candidate has squarely blamed all of London’s problems at the doors of immigrants. The views of UKIP and their candidates are the antithisis of liberalism. Of course as Liberal Democrats we think that people should vote for us and elect a liberal voice like Merlene Emerson rather than a UKIP assembly member who instead of offering well thought out solutions for our cities will blame everything on immigrants or Europe.
