Clegg on the economy, the perils of frankness, and Rich Tea biscuits…

It’s all in an interview with 5Live’s Shelagh Fogarty for the December issue of Total Politics. It’s more a relaxed chat than a detailed policy piece but all the more interesting for that. Among the snippets:

On Lord Mandelson’s recent admission that he and Gordon Brown wasted a lot of time and effort on a personal feud, Nick Clegg is clear: “I think that’s a huge mistake in politics. It’s not easy and it does get personal. People say tough things. I think bluntly this is where Gordon Brown went wrong. Before he was reinvented as this man donning a cape and flying around the world saving capitalism, it was so obvious he didn’t like the personal stuff, so you could see this brooding figure who just hated it. Parliament is like a grown-up schoolyard. It identifies a weakness and then goes for it.”
