Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg’s wife Mirian [sic] has given birth to a son Miguel – their third child. The younger brother for Antonio, seven, and Alberto, four, was born at Kingston Hospital on Sunday. Mother and son are both said to be doing well. …
[Mr Clegg] has said he will take paternity leave, with his deputy Vince Cable to fill in at prime minister’s questions. Mr Clegg’s wife – Miriam Gonzalez Durantez – is a former Middle East expert at the foreign office, whose father was a conservative senator in the Spanish parliament. … When Antonio was born Mr Clegg took a long period of paternity leave so that she could return to work first.

One of the few things that I agree with Clegg on is the utter disgrace of only giving new dads two weeks off work when their children are born. I feel sorry for him, as with every new dad in the country, for having to put up with this outrageous discrimination in parental leave.

Congratulations
Nick is right to highlight the issue of paternity leave. It should be up to parents, not the state, to decide how to share parental leave. The upshot of the inflexible system we currently have is direct discrimination against fathers and indirect discrimination against women of childbearing age.

How rotten of the Sun to use the happy news as an excuse just to be nasty to poor Nick again:
