Andy Burnham on “conflicting advice” about swine flu
There’s even conflicting advice on whether “conflicting advice” is actually conflicting…
From the Guardian:

“There isn’t conflicting advice. The advice has been clear all along that women who are pregnant should take extra precautions as they would anyway – they should really follow the advice about hand hygiene, they should consider avoiding crowded places. This is the advice we have given out all the way.”

David Cameron’s ‘new look’ Tory MPs are the most extreme for a generation
From the Mirror:

David Cameron’s claim to have modernised his party is today exposed as a sham.

The Tory chief’s MPs remain opposed to gay rights, equality for women and abortion, making them the most right-wing in a generation, a Mirror probe has found.

The voting record of the 49 Tory MPs elected for the first time in 2005 shows they are mostly oldfashioned Thatcherites and strongly against social reform.

And all Tory MPs recently voted against the Equalities Bill which would secure equal pay for women and outlaw prejudice against the elderly.

  • The article in the mirror is rather poor journalism. These MP’s are not Camerons intake. They got elected under that nice, tolerant, liberal Mr Howard.

Now what would be far more interesting would be the views of candidates who look like being elected next year in winnable seats. I know some polling was done but did not get much publicity. Not pleasant reading.
