Greene: Offord must tell Scots if he’ll risk free prescriptions

Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverclyde, Jamie Greene, has called for Reform UK’s Malcom Offord to come clean on whether he would make Scots pay for medicine.

In 2025, Lord Offord wrote in a Centre for Policy Studies paper that “dialogue” was needed on making people in Scotland pay prescription charges.

Mr Greene claimed that it was Offord’s responsibility to tell the Scottish people exactly what the consequences of voting for Reform UK would be for hard-pressed Scots.

Reform’s UK boss Nigel Farage has a history of flirting with NHS charging and privatisation, once advocating that the health service moves to an “insurance-based” model.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats are committed to an NHS free at the point of need, to getting Scottish healthcare back on track and to tackling the crisis in care.

Liberal Democrats will also ensure people can access a GP or an NHS dentist when they need it, no matter where they live in the country.

Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Inverclyde, Jamie Greene, said:

Millionaire Malcolm might not be worried about paying for any medicine he needs, but people across Inverclyde and throughout Scotland will be extremely concerned at the prospect of prescription charges coming back.

He needs to be honest and direct: will Reform UK make hardworking Scots pay out of their pockets for the medicine they need? Yes or no?

We’re clear that a vote for the Scottish Liberal Democrats, especially on that crucial second, peach ballot paper, is a vote to keep our NHS free at the point of need and to fix the crisis in care.

I seem to observe most of Reform ‘big wig leaders’ have a considerable amount of money behind them.

  • @Nigel Hunter, not only are most Reform UK leaders wealthy but their party receives such huge financial support and Farage always speaks against taxing the wealthy more than they are currently.
@Jamie Greene, keeping NHS free at point of need and fixing the crisis in care (for children as well as older people I would add) applies to votes for Lib Dems in England too.
