How Nick Clegg should deal with Tory Eurosceptics at PMQs today

Caron’s already given you the 70 minute warning that Nick Clegg is standing in for David Cameron at PMQs today at 12 noon. The Mail’s Matt Chorley has a suggestion for his best approach to the head-banging wing of the Tory party:

The Lib Dem press office took him at his word:

Go on, Nick: dare you…

  • Say clearly that the Liberal Democratic Party does not believe in democracy? Sorry, could not resist.

  • I’ll bet Nick would love to collect up and shred all those embarrassing Real Referendum leaflets ? Instead, he shredded his integrity.

    @ John Dunn

The Mail has delighted in publishing a copy of the Lib/Dem 2010 leaflet with Clegg saying he wants a referendum on our membership of the EU.

I suppose it is a question of patience. Time is not, on the side of the discredited ‘vote deniers’ like Clegg. Every day that passes, it becomes more clear, to more people, that the EU is all about stealing sovereignty, democracy, and economic self determination, from good honest (and increasingly poor), peripheral Europeans, and centralising that power and autonomy, along the contour line between Brussels ~ Berlin.

  • Can anyone explain to me what Clegg’s latest utterance on an in/out referendum means?
“It is a question of when, not if, because the rules are bound to change”

Is Clegg now supporting renegotiation? Is Clegg under the impression that Miliband is supporting renegotation (and a referendum)? Can anyone make sense of this at all?

  • @john Roffey
LDV arrived this morning after I had watched DPMQ. Clegg was excellent. He explained that our Party is in favour of a Referendum if there is a Treaty change. The same proposal as our parliamentarians tried to bring forward at the Lisbon Treaty debate. Is a campaign by the Mail, Express, loony UKIPs and right wing Tories seeking to blame Europe for economic austerity an expression of democracy?

  • @ BrianD
“…..loony UKIPs and right wing Tories seeking to blame Europe for economic austerity an expression of democracy?”
How about this for lunacy and democracy?
The LibDems are showing their true colours in that they, are ‘the’, anti democratic party, blocking any referendum on Europe, whilst at the same time the lucky old Irish got to vote twice. So, how come they got two votes when LD’s are refusing us, even one vote?
Oh, of course I forgot, they were instructed by Brussels, to go and have a second stab at it, because they messed up, and got the ‘wrong answer’ the first time.
It seems that LibDems just love their EU~ North Korean style, democracy.
    Now that’s lunacy.

” EU~ North Korean style, democracy”

I just love it when the Kippers start to froth and their eyes bulge. Good entertainment value.
