Our Canadian sister party, whose recent success has interested and inspired many of us, held its Federal Party Convention (which takes places every two years) in Winnipeg last weekend.
Here is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s bi-lingual speech (French parts have been over-dubbed into English).
* Antony Hook was #2 on the South East European list in 2014, is the English Party's representative on the Federal Executive and produces this sites EU Referendum Roundup.

They have their convention in a country with a much smaller population , admittedly , every two years , we have a conference twice a year ?! Mybe the Spring one is a conference , nationally too many , and maybe the localities and regions need them a bit more !
Anybody who has read Michael Ignatieffs autocritical account of his leadership bid and massive general elections defeat at the hand of the wily and ruthless Conservative Harper knows what Trudeau is on about when he talks about the Factionalism and infighting, the introspectiveness and lack of connection with citizens, voters, that destroyed the Canadian Liberals.
It is a joy indeed to hear the old Liberal Partry of Pierre Trudeau, the “Canadian Kennedy”, being revived, and still fighting for old (indigenous peoples, women) and new (LGTB, especially Transgenders) emancipatory goals.
With Trump rampaging in the States, we need a Trudeau, not a Harper, next door to keep him in check.
Let’s invite Trudeau over for a tour of European Social Liberal parties: LibDems, D66 (Dutch), Open VLD & Spirit (Belgium), Ciudadanos (Spain), To Potami (Greece), Radikale Venstre (Denmark); he’ll give us all a tonic and a boost!
