And across the river in Grimsby have gained East Marsh and Park wards. East Marsh result Lib Dem 901 Lab 507 Con 81 ( We got 330 votes in 2012)
Here in Maidstone we managed 6 holds and 2 gains. I by a single vote. This puts us on 22 and the Tories are down 2 (with 3 losses and a gain from an independent) Labour gained the other Tory seat, but lost 1 to UKIP to stay on 2 seats. UKIP are on 3 and the Independents on 5.
And in Wivenhoe, part of Colchester Borough and therefore part of Colchester’s all-up elections caused by the enforced reduction in number of councillors, the importance of chasing every last vote was demonstrated. We thought we’d do pretty well to get one seat in the newly-created ward, retaining Mark Cory, an existing councillor from a smaller merged ward, benefiting from some split votes. We did that – two Labour, one Liberal Democrat. But Mark rather unexpectedly took second place BY FOUR VOTES and that means the first councillor to face re-election in 2018 as the council returns to election by thirds is Labour.
