Odd story as Paul Walter recounts:
The Portsmouth News carries some more comments concerning the reports of a police “investigation” into alleged/reported allegations concerning Mike Hancock MP. I am somewhat astounded that the police have not actually contacted Mike Hancock concerning this matter, according to his spokesman. You would have thought that, with the papers bandying about words such as “police investigation” and “sex”, the police would have at least contacted the MP.
More over on his blog.

The allegations are varied and many so let’s hope he can clear his name should Inspector Knacker investigate but I’ve been to see Mike Hancock on several occasions to see if he could assist me with many healthcare issues including better funding for my hospital’s local Pain Clinic as a sufferer of chronic pain but never got anywhere, indeed their budget was slashed and staff moved and never replaced. However, I can assure you Mike Hancock certainly never attempted to ‘cheer me up’ with a trip to the house of commons or a home visit or gifts, but then maybe it’s because i’m a male.
The Mike Hancock sex claims debacle raises many questions that need answering.
First and foremost how can a Cabinet Member on Portsmouth City Council be able to continue in his role with the allegations hanging over him?
I am a great believer in innocent until proven guilty but if this were a private company he would have been suspended forthwith so why is the public sector so different yet again?
If they are true they amount to nothing short of misconduct in public office which can carry a prison sentence.
And how can Mr. Hancock continue in his role as Vice Chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on prostitution and the sex trade?
It is hardly an example!
And for his wife to say “its untrue and you know it” and “its just nutters making up claims” just shows her contempt considering that Mike has already admitted his part.
However, surely the most outrageous quote must be that Mike “will of course co-operate with the police” thus giving the impression that it is a matter of choice.
Again this gives the impression of one law for Joe public and another for the elite.
Which is why I say that IF these allegations do turn out to be true and lead to a conviction then it is time for David Cameron and Nick Clegg to live up to their words by forcing a parliamentary recall for Mr. Hancock and a by-election in Portsmouth South.
