One year I took a day trip to Prague from Gatwick. I liked the stained glass in the Cathedral. An area of land provided for housing had become an overcrowded ghetto with multiple slanted gravestones.
Czech writer Vaclav Havel had been imprisoned by the communists, and as per one of his plays, had refused to report on himself.
Every time (3) he was elected as President of Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic he issued a pardon for low risk prisoners.
He was awarded numerous prizes around the world for his work on human rights, including on Roma (gypsies). The communists had provided housing as a means of control, mostly in an area from which ethnic Germans had been expelled after world war 2.
He was a heavy smoker but was always available when needed.
There was a smell of mulled wine across Wenceslas Square. I bought several books in English, but have only read them once.

  • Merry Christmas to all the LDV team and its readers.

I hope you all have a wonderful Xmas and a prosperous New Year

    Best Wishes All

    Matt
