Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #120

Welcome to the 120th of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (31st May – 6th June 2009), together with a hand-picked quintet, mostly courtesy of LibDig, you might otherwise have missed.

As ever, let’s start with the most popular post, and work our way down.

1. As Lib Dems Surge To Second Place, Polls and Papers Say – Vote Lib Dem To Really Hurt Gordon Brown
on Alex Wilcock’s Love and Liberty blog.
“… the party to trust on changing things is the one that’s always argued for it, rather than the ones who’ve always voted against but suddenly find it fashionable.” Indeed.

2. A few lies being spead about the Norwich North By-Election on Nich Starling’s Norfolk Blogger blog.
In case you’ve spent the last two days missing the campaign trail, let’s not forget there’s an imminent Parliamentary by-election.

3. Liberal Democrats Or UKIP? on Alex Wilcock’s Love and Liberty blog.
Daddy or chips?

4. Local elections – Friday open thread
on Lib Dem Voice.
Rolling results coverage and a monster comments thread.

5. Local elections ’09: the LDV verdict by Stephen Tall on Lib Dem Voice.
Fair and balanced ((C) Fox News) analysis.

6. 2009: worst local elections ever? on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
Highlighting how local election results often don’t reflect how people voted.

7. County Council elections – the reason why they aren’t quite finished yet… on Mark Valladares’ Liberal Bureaucracy blog.
Chantry: the Suffolk division holding up conclusion of this year’s English local elections.

And now to the five blog-posts that come highly recommended regardless of the number of Aggregator click-throughs they attracted. As is now traditional we’re using the LibDig widget to select some of the posts from the seven days in question which you’ve most ‘dug’. But, remember, if you want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – using the steam-powered method of e-mail all you have to do is drop me a line at [email protected] (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

8. You can’t libel the dead, but the English Democrats are having a bloody good go of it on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog!
“James Graham in fine form over an appalling comment from an English Democrat.” (Submitted by markpack via LibDig).

9. Are we less neighbourly than in the good old days? on ‘Costigan Quist’s’ Himmelgarten Cafe blog.
“Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.” (Submitted by niles via LibDig).

10. Vote for a Change
on Caron Lindsay’s Caron’s Musings blog.
“Caron Lindsay on the campaign for a referendum on PR.” (Submitted by amy via LibDig).

11. Should he stay or should he go? on Lisa Harding’s Spiderplant Land! blog.
“Thoughts on Gordon Brown’s remaining days in office.” (Submitted by lisaharding42 via LibDig).

12. Cornish Lib Dems send out leaflet using four-letter word on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England blog.
It could have been a worse one, I guess.

That’s it for another week. Ish. Happy blogging.

  • Hi,

I’ve been a reader of this site for sometime now and have a question. Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to post.

Today I saw in the Guardian that Labour are due to heavily censor MPs’ expenses claims before they are published.

What is the LibDems stance on this?
If we do not have a policy then surely we should?

Is it possible that the LibDems could commit to publishing this information without censorship? I’m sure this would be welcomed by all of the electorate.
