From Jonathan Wallace comes the welcome news that the Tories lost 3% of their vote in yesterday’s Gateshead council by-election, dropping to just 6% of the vote. The Lib Dems were up 4%, but clearly there are some parts of the North East that will carry on loving Labour… mind you, that’s what people said about Newcastle.
How did you fair in yesterday’s by-elections? Let us know.
UPDATE: Will reports that Fife saw an SNP gain from Labour with us in third (the Tories got 39 votes!). Blackburn with Darwen DC was won by an independent from the Tories – we were fourth, though just up the road we recently became the largest party.
Elsewhere in local government, the Lib Dem group on the GLA are clearly bored.

One update on this though. It is cheaper to get rid of a pigeon from Trafalgar S
Whoops. Pressed the send button too early.
What I meant to say was that it is cheaper to get rid of pigeons from Trafalgar Square than it is from the Scottish Parliament. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/5388092.stm
Must be the only thing that is cheaper in London than Scotland!
“How many other mentions of the Lib Dems were there in today’s Grauniad?” – I don’t know… t’other half made me late for the train so I didn’t have time to buy it. Grr. Glad to see you’re having fun over there though 😉
And the story got a mention on Steve Wright in the afternoon on Radio 2 – who can complain? Though alas they didn’t mention the Lib Dems.
