The “description” column in the list of candidates nominated for an election is where you normally find the name of the party that a candidate is standing for, or a close variant of it. It’s also what is then used on the ballot papers themselves. Sometimes too people are down as independents or have no descriptions. And then sometimes you have candidates who really don’t understand what “description” is for … as you can see here.

Heh, funny but not quite accurate a story 🙂 In parish and/or commuity elections, there is no requirement to use registered political names. It’s perfectly within the current rules for those descriptions to be used if the candidate so wishes.
Err… where did I say it was a requirement to use political names? Or that these descriptions were against the rules? If you’re going to be pedantic, please be accurate in your pedantry 🙂
I loved “Female, Slim build.” I had no idea you could run for public office and take out a personal ad at the same time!
Bad user interface.
“Description” is far too vague a word. If it is supposed to be for indicating political allegiance, then the damn box should be captioned “Political allegiance (if any)”. You can’t blame people for failing to operate a system which does not make its operation obvious to the user.
Yes, when it happens with so many candidates its clearly not the best elections office running the thing.
“And then sometimes you have candidates who really don’t understand what “description” is for … as you can see here.”
How do they not understand what it’s for? At usually-non-political parish level description tends to get used for people’s job titles. However, OK, the 5’2 slim built woman clearly hasn’t a clue.
Those are some almightily long Welsh words 🙂
