  • So one of the most active discussions this past 7 days has been —
    ” 5% – how low can we go? ”

Perhaps after Rochester the question has been revised to read –“Less than 1%, how much longer can Clegg hide away?”

I have given up trying to get past the password trip-wire to gain access to the Members’ Forum. I gave up some months ago having more than once ticked the box asking for permanent access, I have filled in my membership number and done everything requested by the automated software but still I am met by the Kafka-like wall of exclusion. Am I the only one?
Getting into Kafka’s Castle would be a doddle compared to gaining access to the LDV Members’ Forum.

@JohnTilley – I am sure that Ryan Cullen can sort you out.

The “5%” thread is interesting and you are absolutely right to put it in context of Rochester. The argument presented is that by-elections like Rochester represent a “catch-up time” (as Bill Le Breton puts it) for many people: a moment where they actually notice what is happening in politics. And when you have a result like Rochester where the coverage was about how irrelevant the Lib Dems are, the “two-horse race” argument becomes more difficult to sell in the GE.

See for example this in today’s Daily Mail : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2844850/Dire-Lib-Dems-finish-FIFTH-just-ahead-dominatrix-Nick-Clegg-humiliated-Rochester-poll-party-narrowly-defeats-former-sex-worker-year.html

Viewed in this way, Rochester is not (as the ALDC press release says) “disappointing” – it is a potential tipping point in the loss of vital tactical support in marginal seats.

Thanks Paul, but Ryan Cullen has actually sorted things out before. I was not criticising him. It is just that more than a couple of times I have had the whole password thing sorted for a few days and then the system slips back into exclusion mode. Maybe my I-pad is too ancient at six years old, or the 5.1.1 operating system is considered an antique nowadays.

I am sure that is not Ryan’s fault — it is just one of those frustrations of living in the modern world. It is a bit like the computers at banks refusing customers access to their own money.
Or like those cold calls on the telephone — even though I have been signed up to the telephone preference service since Noah was a telephone engineer.

I sometimes feel sorry for the whoever it is at GCHQ who has to sort through all these bogus calls in case I am being radicalised by the Daesh.
