This seems to be the consensus of speculation so far:
– the Lib Dems will come a good second in Ealing Southall, running Labour hard, and shrugging off the Tory challenge;
– and will leap-frog the Tories into second place behind Labour in Sedgefield.

It sounds like we’ve more than held our own.
Whatever the result in Southall we need to make sure that we keep up the local action, and translate it into a good win in Ealing Central and Acton next election…
…and a strong second place and a bloody nose for Labour in Sedgefield will deliver all the verdict you need on Tony Blair’s reign!
I wonder how many Tories are staying up?

The BBC’s “independent” expert is explaining why the Tories did well in Sedgefield (with a 0.2% vote share increase) and we did badly (with an 11% swing and pushing the Tories into 3rd place). Annoying!

Sedgefield: Tories pushed into third place
Ealing Southall: Tories stay in third place
Let’s see the Tories spin that one: third place in North and South.
The Tory spin will be that their percentage went up in both seats (I think it went up in Ealing, albeit marginally).

That’ll probably display awfully, but Labour got 41%, doubt we could’ve won even if the Tories hadn’t campaigned on that, the squeeze wouldn’t have been that good.
I advise people to visit conservativehome and read the comments on there. Very uplifting honesty from rank & file Tories.

It’s the first time I’ve ever actually heard Lit speak.
Not impressive was he; plum in his mouth over-educated stereotype Tory getting by on Daddy’s money.
Horrible generalisation but that’s how he came across, so what was DC thinking in shoe-horning him in?
OTOH, Nigel isn’t coming across great, but at least he comes across as sincere. Ah well, time to turn in.
