Ambulance delays crisis: Streeting must make a statement to Parliament
Responding to reports that heart attack patients are being advised to make their own way to hospital while six of England’s ten ambulance trusts are at risk of service failure, Liberal Democrat Health and Social Care spokesperson Helen Morgan said:
The shocking reports on the state of ambulance services are extremely concerning, and show the dire situation in which the Conservative government has left so many of our vital NHS services.
Lack of services and wait times spiralling out of control are leaving some of the most vulnerable patients at significant risk and without the emergency treatment they deserve.
The Liberal Democrats are calling for the Health Secretary to urgently make a statement to Parliament and bring forward a plan to save ambulance services and avoid this crisis deepening through winter.
Syria: Assad must now face justice for his crimes
Responding to reports that the Assad regime has fallen in Syria, Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Calum Miller, said:
The fall of Assad is a momentous day for the millions of Syrians who have suffered under his brutal rule.
This despot – who used chemical weapons against his own people – must now face justice for the crimes which he has committed.
It is too early to say what happens next. All efforts should be directed to securing an orderly transition of power and protecting minority groups.
The international community must do all that we can to ensure that this genuinely is a turning point, and it is the voice of Syrians who are now heard, culminating in free and fair elections in line with international law.
