Let’s hope that more Alliance MPs are elected on December 12th.

Naomi Long is the leader of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. She defeated the DUP leader in 2010, first past the post, and became MP for East Belfast, campaigning against double-jobbing. It was unrealistic for Peter Robinson to be leader of the DUP and First Minister of the devolved government at the same time.
Naomi Long was elected MEP for Northern Ireland in 2019. The Single Transferable Vote is used for local government and euro-elections in Northern Ireland and for all elections in the Republic of Ireland.
    Blessed are the peacemakers.

  • Having a genuinely radical Liberal as a leader?! What will Alliance think of next…

What a great PPB Naomi!! Keep up the good work and the very best of good luck to you all. Your courage and tenacity are shining examples to us.

Naomi Long is a hugely impressive speaker, I’ve heard her several times at various international meetings and she is always a very convincing speaker. I hope we Lib Dems can share more platforms with her as we continue our struggle to slay the dragon of Brexit and keep the family of nations that are the UK together.
Blessed indeed are the peacemakers, and who better to put that across.

This PPB is full of clear statements of why the people of N Ireland should remain in the eu. It does seem to be avoiding other important issues and is probably symptomatic of the political dilemmas of irish politics. I’ve never understood why The Alliance is not part of the Liberal Democrats on parity with the Scottish and Welsh Parties.
