BBC: Nick Clegg hails England’s ‘unbeatable’ World Cup bid

The BBC reports:

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has told Fifa inspectors England’s bid for the 2018 World Cup is “unbeatable”. The Fifa delegation, which will write a report on England’s bid to host the World Cup, began their four-day visit with a reception at Downing Street. Mr Clegg said: “I believe this is an exceptionally strong, unbeatable bid. We in this government believe in it, we hope that you will believe in it.”

  • LOL did he nearly address them as “infected”? Been watching zombie films over the w/e?

  • I know the government has to support it because England is part of UK but would they show the same support if Scotland had a bid for the World Cup and would they support it as enthusiastically.

I hate the fact that we are still separate nations.

  • Kehaar – don’t give anyone ideas….

  • Rosalind –

Except for – among other projects – a £150m 43,000 seat stadium in Plymouth.

How often is that going to be filled?

Perhaps we should adopt the nuclear power approach – build by all means, but no public subsidy!

  • I just hope the bid isn’t damaged by the fact that “only” the Deputy PM met the delegation.

  • If clegg has anything to do with it were doomed to fail, but on a more serious note there will be no legacy to speak of in the uk so my money is on russia.

  • so what team does Nick Clegg support

    I understand none
