We’re just putting the finishing touches to our plans for covering the Bournemouth federal conference (Security pass? Check. Emergency chocolate rations? Check. Peruvian dancing band booked for fringe? Check.)
Now that we’ve been around through several conferences, there is always the risk of doing things just because that’s what we’ve always done. So any last minute suggestions for what we should do in addition to or differently from our previous conference coverage?

Video video video video 😀
(Personally I think all training sessions should be filmed and put on the members-only website for those who can’t make it to Conference – and/or those who can’t be in two places at once!)
How about a CalDAV calendar of the main proceedings. Something we can subscribe to from our mobile devices, so they automatically update. Seems essential now that the schedules aren’t published in advance.
How about some vox pops of random people on their views on how the conference is going, and I mean random – not the usual suspects.
Maybe a first time delegate, a couple of ordinary reps who aren’t councillors or PPCs and possibly one of the non Lib Dem exhibitors.
Ian – a cllr from Cambridge has written a program making iCal links available for the conf programme – I’m writing a post for the morning about it…
Robin – I’ve always wondered whether anyone actually listens to the vox pops I do! And believe me, they are almost always chosen at random – maybe I just have an uncanny knack of tapping PPCs on the shoulders. We don’t get many refusals, but I usually stop asking after about 3 people just because I don’t like taping stuff I won’t use.
On video Vox pops — I remember doing a series of them with Stephen a few years ago (2007?). They were great fun, and were a good way to give a grassroots’ view from the conference floor. But they took Stephen a lot of work to edit and didn’t get very many views. So, I think the balance shifted to others things that seem in greater demand per person-hour. But I agree!
How about some Gregorian chanting?
John – don’t make suggestions like that if you’re not serious – there’s already rather a lot of us threatening to take our ukuleles…
And for those who can’t attend, BBC Parliament has details of its coverage at:
