On the day the coalition announces its proposals for reforming the House of Lords to make it more efficient and accountable, it’s worth highlighting the support for such reforms expressed by the Prime Minister in last year’s first debate between the three party leaders.
It’s often said that David Cameron is at best ambivalent about House of Lords reform, but he is quite clear in his view in this video clip:

My only concern with the plans is the length of term. If the argument that safe seats makes MP’s complacent then what does a 15 year term do? I know the arguments about freeing members from Party control etc, but we do vote for parties. I would rather have similar terms to MP’s and Council members.
I suspect he thinks there are better things for the government to spend its time on.
There are a lot more votes in the economy than in House of Lords reform.
