Now in my third month in Scotland, I’m on my second by-election.
Glenrothes has come around following the tragic death of John McDougall. It is one of four Parliamentary seats in Fife; we hold two of them, Sir Menzies Campbell in North East Fife and Willie Rennie in Dunfermline (which as you will recall we won in 2006 in the last by-election in Fife). Labour hold the other – it is Gordon Brown’s seat.
So, I’m asking you today to come and help us here in Fife. I’m writing this piece as I watch Barack Obama’s speech knowing (and being jealous of) that Chris Rennard is sat in that very stadium.
We’ve selected Harry Wills, the SNP, Tories, SSP and UKIP have also selected their candidates.
We’ve opened our fantastic office in Markinch, right in the heart of the constituency – Crusader House, Haig Business Park, Balgonie Road, Markinch, KY7 6AQ, and our website is up and running www.fightingforfife.org.uk and our temporary number is 07544 567 583.
Harry is a former businessman, he is a former Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year and is up for this election. Harry wants to stand up for the forgotten people of the kingdom of Fife.
This campaign is going to be a longer one than usual, so if you have a week to spare I can promise you this: Fife is a beautiful part of the UK and delivering leaflets here will make a difference – it can help to deliver change. You will enjoy the views from the beaches and caves in Wemyss to the buffalo in Kennoway; Fife has it all.
It’s time for a change in Fife.

Inevitably the Lib Dem website says “it’s a two horse race” …
Troll Alert

You seem to have started following me round calling me names. That kind of thing is generally frowned on in Internet forums. It doesn’t exactly raise the tone.
The Press Association reports unofficial indications that the by election will take place on 6 November:

Still-a-troll alert…
To be honest, I think it’s pretty obvious who the trolls are!
To try and inject some sense into this conversation, I find the 6th November a very good date to bury bad news….
Yes, that point has been made elsewhere.
I’m not quite sure. If the media have had Wednesday and Thursday to chew over the presidential election result, they may be just about ready for something different by Friday.
And if the narrative from America turns out to be “out with the old …” Labour losing Glenrothes might fit quite well as a sequel.
