I know I had a bit of a go at Danny Alexander over the independence referendum yesterday, but one thing he can never be accused of is not having a sense of humour.
We saw it when Harriet Harman called him a ginger rodent. The world got a new beer out of that one.
He laughed his head off at a song which suggested that he be fed to the pandas at Edinburgh Zoo.
Yesterday, Kermit the Frog did an interview for the Big Issue in which he said he was in favour of the UK staying together.
This is how Danny responded on his Facebook page:
Kermit couldn’t make it on to Newsnight Scotland to discuss his support for the UK. He sent Stadler and Waldorf instead, though, in the form of veterans Jim Sillars and George Galloway. The ensuing debate was hilarious. Both Yes Scotland and Better Together must have been having kittens at how off message their visions of a socialist Scotland and UK were. There was a bit of nastiness and it wasn’t very illuminating, but it was very funny. It will be one of those moments we’ll remember when all this is over. Galloway’s overuse of the phrase “nonsense on stilts” was particularly noteworthy. If you have some time to spare, you can watch it here.

I do wonder what has happened to the Liberal Democrats. They have banned the YES scotland campaign from having a stall at the Scottish Conference. Since when did liberals ban opinion a very legitimate opinion shared by a lot of liberals such former chief executive Andy Miles. Home rule or Independence in the EU not much difference really.
I’m not aware that Yes asked for a stall at this Conference, Laurence.
Caron, just want to second your comment that the Newsnight Scotland debate is really entertaining to watch, even for a non-Socialist Londoner. Reminder of what a good speaker Galloway is (even when frequently wrong and often very wrong) and fun having to remember constantly that the two of them agree on pretty much everything except independence!
Caron, a question too if I may, as you seem very sensible on all this. Where do you stand on English folk canvassing as part of the Better Together campaign (I have just received an email from Better Together London asking for volunteers to participate this evening)? I am very keen Scotland remain part of the UK but worry that English people sticking their oar in may backfire…..
