It’s Welsh conference today and Kirsty Williams is giving her keynote leader’s speech. In it she will emphasise what the Liberal Democrats have done within the coalition, saying that we have been the good news story of the last five years. She will say:
We have been the good news story, the positive story, the shining light that has come from this Coalition
It is Liberal Democrat policies that are making the difference. Whether it is raising the tax threshold, revolutionising the pensions system, or introducing equal marriage, we have a strong record we will take to the doorsteps
We are now just 67 days from the General Election
Then the people of Wales will have a decision to make
Labour can’t be trusted with our economy,
The Tories can’t be trusted to fight for fairness
Neither party has the answer
The Welsh Liberal Democrats are the only party to combine economic responsibility and social justice
‘A stronger economy, a fairer society’
They are two sides of the same coin
Wales needs a party that can stand up when the Tories and Labour go too far
One that reflects all of society, not just unions and millionaires
We remain the only way to ensure there’s a Liberal voice right at the heart of Government
The only way to ensure Wales has a stronger economy and a fairer society
The only way to ensure opportunity for everyone

Two words – “benefit sanctions.”
Two more words: “Bedroom Tax”
And yet another two more words which will haunt your party: “NHS reforms”.
Saying we’ve been the positive story of the Coalition is like saying “we went into alliance with the Devil and it turns out we’re better than he is”.
@Philip Thomas: I think you just won the internet. Brilliantly put.
One word, Libya.
So- going to hold Brecon and Radnor?

I don’t think anyone thinks Labour only “reflect unions”, and haven’t for about 25 years, Kirsty.
Anne,
I notice that Bush and Cheney have been banned from Venezuela on the grounds that they are terrorists. Considering what we did to Libya I think Camoron and Clegg should be put on that list too.

The Liberal Democrats have sunk to a new low of just 5% in the latest Opinium/Observer poll which gives Labour a wafer-thin lead over the Tories with less than 100 days to go until the general election.
The rating for Nick Clegg’s party is the worst in any poll by Opinium since the Lib Dems entered the coalition with the Conservatives in May 2010.
If replicated at the election it would mean the party would almost certainly lose most of its 57 seats in parliament, making it less likely to form a coalition with either the Tories or Labour after 7 May….
Sadly, the electorate are less positive…..
