LDV party members’ survey: Nick Clegg approval rating at +66%

At the start of the week, Lib Dem Voice invited the members of our private discussion forum (open to all Lib Dem members) inviting them to take part in a survey, conducted via Liberty Research, asking a number of questions about the party and the current state of British politics. Many thanks to the 200 of you who completed it; we’re publishing the results on LDV over the next few days.

It’s four months since we last asked party members how they felt Nick Cleg was doing as Lib Dem leader – the last time was in the wake of the party conference, when Nick received a big boost, presumably thanks to the high media profile gained. (Even if it wasn’t all positive – eg, tuition fees and ‘savage’ cuts). The question was: could Nick sustain this rating through the winter, when Lib Dem ratings often tail off as the media ignores us? Well, the answer is, yes he could:

LDV asked: What is your view of Nick Clegg’s performance as Lib Dem leader?

Here’s what you told us (with October’s figures in brackets):

    Very effective 19% (16%)
    Effective 63% (64%)
    Ineffective 15% (15%)
    Very ineffective 1% (3%)
    Don’t know / No opinion 2% (3%)

In total, then, 82% (80% in October) of LDV-reading party members regard Nick’s performance as effective or very effective, compared with 16% (18%) who do not: a net satisfaction rating of +66% (+62%). That’s an extremely positive rating heading into an election, and one with which Nick can feel deservedly pleased.
