LDV’s Liberal Voice poll: a two-horse race* between Tatchell and Goldacre?

Five days ago, LDV launched our search for our annual Liberal Voice of the Year, open only to non-Lib Dems, with you, our dear readers, forming the electorate. Voting will close this Sunday, 17th January. Here’s how the votes currently stack up:

  • 11% (69) – Guy Herbert, general secretary of NO2ID, for his campaigning work against the database state;
  • 30% (180) – Peter Tatchell, for his tireless and fearless international human rights campaigning;
  • 13% (79) – Joanna Lumley, for her campaigning for justice on behalf of Gurkha veterans;
  • 2% (13) – Rory Stewart, for his straight-talking common sense on Afghanistan;
  • 9% (56) – Terry Pratchett, in recognition of the liberal, tolerant philosophy within his works of fiction;
  • 8% (48) – Henry Porter, co-founder of The Convention on Modern Liberty, for his campaigning work on liberty and civil rights;
  • 19% (118) – Ben Goldacre, author of Bad Science, for his satirical criticism of scientific inaccuracy;
  • 7% (44) – Alan Rusbridger, editor of The Guardian, and Twitter for defeating Trafigura’s super-injunction.

Total votes to date: 607

With two days of voting left, is Peter Tatchell’s lead unassailable? Or could Ben Goldacre, Joanna Lumley or Guy Herbert yet snatch it at the last? It’s up to you. The poll is live in the right-hand column of the LDV home-page.

* more than my life’s worth to call it ‘a straight choice’.
